Welcome to My Rally Campaign
My name is Karenna Elliott and I am a freestyle aerial skier. I am a determined 17-year old with a dream to become an Olympic champion in the sport of freestyle aerials. There are only four more years left before the next Winter Olympic Games and I intend to make them count. These next four years are critical for every professional athlete's training. The first step is 2018, the transition year.
This year, 2018, is what I call transition year. This is because a lot of athletes that competed in the previous Olympics are retiring and new athletes are getting moved up. Fortunately, I have the privilege to be one of those athletes getting moved up. Unfortunately, higher rankings mean more expenses. I am getting moved from the development team, onto the national team. The tuition for this change is not only hard for me as a training and working athlete, but it's also very hard for my family. We are hoping to raise enough funds to help my transition from a development athlete, to professional athlete happen.
Although skiing is my passion now, three years ago I had no idea this sport even existed. I started out as a gymnast and then transferred into the sport of trampoline and tumbling (T&T). When I found T&T, I thought I had found the one sport I was going to stick with for the rest of my athletic career. Then I was brought into the sport of freestyle aerials and it was a complete gamechanger. I had just finished a practice competition and was asked by a ski team recruiter if I knew how to ski. I was completely confused because I had never really thought about winter sports before. The recruiter thought I would be a perfect candidate for a tryout camp up in Lake Placid, NY. I was taught how to ski over the course of four ski trips to Perfect North Slopes in Indiana. In 2015, I went to the try out camp for the Elite Aerial Development Program in Lake Placid. I made the team my first time ever trying the sport. From there I was completely in love with freestyle aerials and knew I wanted to continue in the sport and become an Olympian.
The past winter, I won my first official North American (NorAm) competition at the Utah Olympic Park (UOP). After that, I continued to nail my jumps and ended up with a 3rd place podium overall finish against Australians, Canadians, and Americans. That earned me a spot to work with the U.S. national team coaches out in Park City, UT.
I am so ecstatic about this opportunity for my career! I really couldn't have done it without my family and other supporters that became my second family. Thank you to everyone who has gotten me this far. Now for the next four years, I hope to land a spot on the 2022 U.S. Winter Olympic Team! I am determined to be the best, not only for myself, but also for my country, supporters, teammates, friends, and family. With just a little financial support, my training can go a long way. Thank you.
