At Utah Crew, a 501(c)3 non-profit, we are constantly striving to make the experience of our young rowers better and more rewarding.
One of the major challenges that our team is currently facing is the lack of a permanent facility to store our boats and equipment. In recent years, we have used the lot at Nickerson Pump who have graciously allocated us space temporarily. It is vital, however, for the long-term survival of our club to secure a more permanent solution.
Recently an opportunity presented itself. The Waterford rowing team is in the process of securing a long term 25-year lease of a parcel of land which is owned by Meridian and adjacent to Nickerson Pump. Waterford is inviting us (and other rowing clubs in Salt Lake City) to share the use of this land.
There are many advantages to this: 1) It is a long-term solution to our space problem. 2) It will allow us access to the water even during regular business hours. 3) Our rowers will access the canal without crossing Indiana Avenue. 4) In time, with additional funding, we may even build a boathouse on the land. The initial project of property improvements will cost roughly $240,000 and be primarily funded by Waterford. We are being asked to make a financial contribution of $20,000. While this is a small portion of the total needed for the whole project, it represents a significant commitment on behalf of Utah Crew. Two Utah Crew families have already committed to match donations of up to $10,000, so our remaining goal for this fundraiser is at least $10,000.
You may donate via Rally Me or you can also send a check made out to Utah Crew at 244 West 300 North, Suite 200, Salt Lake City, UT 84103. (Note that most donations are made directly to Utah Crew and hence not reflected in the Rally Me total.)
We appreciate any support you can give. Every contribution counts and is fully tax deductible!
