Our Experience and Goal as Team USA
Evan Workin (Skip)
-
I'm Evan Workin, and I am the skip for Team Workin. This is the third year we've competed together. I've curled out of the Fargo Moorhead Curling Club for the past 15 years.
-
Our team qualified for the World Championships being held in Kelowna, BC this October, and we're currently in training mode ramping up for it. You never know if/when you'll be able to compete as Team USA again, so we're hoping to give it all we've got and perform at the level we know we can. A medal is the ultimate goal!
Rachel Workin (Vice-Skip)
- I'm Rachel Workin, and I play vice for Team Workin. This is the third year we've competed together. I've curled out of the Fargo Moorhead Curling Club for the past eight years, and played out of the Grafton Club for eight years before that. Jordan Brown (Second)
- Hi, my name is Jordan Brown. I shoot 2nd for Team Workin & I curl out of the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, Minnesota. I have been curling for ten years and am excited for this opportunity to represent the USA at the 2018 Mixed World Curling Championships in Kelowna, British Columbia.
Christina Lammers (Lead)
- I am Christina Lammers and I play Lead for Team Workin. I curl out of the Fargo Moorhead Curling Club.
Our Goal
- Our team goal is to represent the USA as best as we can and to make the podium. It would be a great success for us to medal at the 2018 World Championships.
Why We Are Raising Funds
- While it is with great honor to be able to represent the USA at Worlds, it comes with a price. We must be able to cover transportation expenses for each of as us and our Coach (flights, rental car, lodging) as well as training fees leading up the event. Our team is gong to participate in several events leading up to the World Championships in order to better prepare ourselves. These funds will significantly help us reach our goal.
How We Got Here
Evan Workin (Skip)
- I started curling when I was 13 yrs old in Fargo, ND after I watch the sport on Tv during the Winter Olympics. It started out as something to do in the winter months when I wasn't playing baseball or football. Over the next few years it became clear that I truely loved the sport of curling. I started competing in all the High School tournaments, which our team won in 2007 and 2008, I also competed in the 2009 and 2011 Junior Nationals. I competed in 2 World University Playdowns as well. This year our Men’s team T-4th place in 2018 USA Men's National Championships, Won the Gold at the 2018 Mixed Nationals and will now be representing USA at 2018 Mixed Worlds in Kelowna, BC in October. I represent the FM Curling Club in Fargo, ND.

We got the band back together for our mixed team after separately playing men's and women's all year just in time for play downs out of North Dakota. There was a strong field in-state, so making it out was half the battle of getting to where we're at. From there we competed in Lakeville, MN for the National Championships and had a great week playing against some great teams. Going to worlds is a new experience for all of us, so we're trying our best now to prepare ourselves and have a good showing.
Rachel Workin (Vice-Skip)
- I started curling around 4th grade and really got involved through my club's junior curling program. From there I competed in Junior Nationals in 2007, 2009, 2010 (bronze), 2011 (bronze), and 2012. Our mixed team went to nationals in 2012 and 2015. We didn't place, but we had a lot of fun and really learned what it was like to go out curling "on our own" without the feeling of being at the Junior level. In 2017, the women's club team I was on won the gold medal at the Women's Club National Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska. It was an amazing trip with amazing people. This year, my women's team competed at Women's Nationals in Fargo, and we've enjoyed competing in cash spiels and travelling together. - I grew up in a curling family and was able to watch several members of my family win state and national championships. I participated in several other sports before I decided to go all-in for curling. It makes me wish I would have started at a much younger age. Some key successes include: t-4th place at the 2018 USA Men's National Championships, 1st place at the 2018 USA Mixed National Championships, 4th place at the 2011 USA Club Men's National Championship, and winners of several smaller tournaments throughout these last ten years.

- I started curling in the 5th grade though the junior curling program at the Fargo Moorhead curling club and began competing competitively in middle school. I competed in Junior Nationals in 2009, 2010, and 2012, and competed in mixed nationals with the team 2012, 2015, and 2018. This year, the women's team Rachel and I play on competed at Women's Nationals in Fargo.
THANKS FROM TEAM WORKIN (TEAM USA)
Evan Workin (Skip)
- I'd like to thank my family. My parents, sister, and in-laws. They have always been there to support us from the time we 13 driving us to the curling club during the most random times all the way to being our biggest fans when needed most. They are always there to support us in what ever way we need even when stress is high and we are being unreasonable. Without them there we would have never had the success we have had.
- I would also like to thank my teammates Christina and Jordan for putting up with my crazy mood swings during games, practical jokes, and frigid air temp I keep the hotel room. My wife Rachel has also been a huge support. It wasn’t easy in the beginning with such opposite personalities but I can honestly say with her calming attitude on the ice it has made me a better player and teammate. It has been a pleasure to play with her and her no fear approach when I call the craziest shots and she gives me a simple “ok”.
Rachel Workin (Vice-Skip)
- I'd like to thank the coaches that have supported me and my teams throughout the years. Coaching is a selfless job that few people are cut out to do in life, but I feel like I've always had the most kind-hearted and best influences in the curling community. Without you, I wouldn't be the person I am or have been able to experience all the opportunities the sport of curling has to offer.
- I'd also like to thank my family. My parents, brother, and in-laws that are willing to drop weeks of work at a time to support us and keep us grounded. They don't always get the thanks they deserve (especially when the tension is high), but I greatly appreciate their love, sacrifices, and support.
- Thanks goes out to both Christina and Jordan for putting up with my music in the mornings when we travel, my constant sleeping in the backseat, and the accidental head bumping my lack of height causes when sweeping. My husband Evan has also been a huge support. Not every married couple can curl together, but I'm glad that we can work as a team both on and off the ice. I can't wait to shoot stick 45 years from now while you call out from the other end that I flipped my handle again...
Jordan Brown (Second)
- I want to thank my teammates, my wife & daughter, and my family for all the support throughout the years. Curling competitively is definitely time-consuming and must be done with some sacrifice. Without the support of these folks I wouldn't be able to enjoy the success I have had and the fun, friends, and memories I've made along the way. Thank you.
Christina Lammers (Lead)
- I'd like to extend a thank you to my parents for encouraging me to begin curling and for supporting me at numerous bonspiels and events over the years. I'd like to thank my siblings and Darin for keeping me grounded, supporting my dreams, and for embarrassingly cheering too loud at times. Thanks to my friends for their patience when I talk about curling too much and always being the best cheering crowd. I would also like to thank my relatives who send encouraging messages and despite the distance, have managed to watch as many games possible via webstream.
- I'd would like to give a huge thanks all of the coaches who have helped me over the years. Your patience and guidance has not gone unappreciated. I wouldn't be where I am today without all those who have taken the time to help and encourage me over the years.
- Lastly, I would like to thank my teammates for enduring my early morning, pre-coffee grumpiness. We have made some great memories over the years and I always have fun curling with you guys.
