Welcome to My Rally Campaign
I am Daniel Kulenkamp, a 19 year old, Team USA skater from Minnesota. Earlier this year, I moved from Minnesota to Scottsdale, Arizona to train with new coaches at a new facility. In September I was named to Team USA for the first time and had the opportunity to compete at my first Junior Grand Prix in Zagreb, Croatia. Hopefully this will be the first of many international competitions I get to compete in.
My ultimate goal is to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChange, South Korea. Competing in Croatia was a great learning experience and the first step in achieving my goal. The next step is to compete at the 2015 US Championships this upcoming January. The Championships will take place in Greensboro, North Carolina. I am starting this Rally Me campaign to help offset the costs of this trip. I hope to raise $2,500, which will go towards coaching fees, travel expenses, a place to stay, car rental, and food expenses for the week. Airfare to Greensboro will cost nearly $500 a ticket, lodging is nearly $1000, and coaching expenses typically cost around $1000. Raising the full $2500 will make this trip much less of a financial burden on myself and my family.
I started skated at four years old. My dad coached high school hockey for years and wanted to get me started in skating lessons at the local ice rink. After a few years of lessons, it was clear that I really loved to skate and so I stuck with it. In 2006, I won my first Minnesota State Championship, at the Juvenile level. In 2010 and 2011, I competed at two US Junior National Championships. In 2011, I became the 29th American skater to pass the prestigious ISI Freestyle 10 test. In 2013, I competed at my first US Championships at the Novice level, and this past season I competed at the 2014 US Championships in Boston, MA at the Junior Level.
This season I placed first at the US Figure Skating Junior Challenge Skate in Salt Lake City, UT, and was named to Team USA. I competed at the 2014 Croatia Cup, my first Junior Grand Prix, and placed ninth overall with a personal best score. Most recently, I placed second at the 2015 Pacific Coast Championships, beating my personal best from Croatia by ten points. I am very excited for the Championships in January and I know it will be a great competition.
There are so many people who have supported my skating throughout the years, and I'm grateful to have every one of them. My parents, brother, and grandparents have always been my biggest supporters. I am so lucky and proud to have family as loving and supportive as them. My coaches Doug and Lara Ladret, Steve Cousins, and Ben Agosto are so great. They've helped transform me from the skater I was at the Championships last year (placing last) to getting named to Team USA mid-season and competing internationally. I couldn't have done it without them. Several family friends have helped me unconditionally over the past few years, especially the Glyer family and the Berrier family. The support of my friends at the Ice Den in Scottsdale, as well as all of my friends in Minnesota have helped me in so many ways, and I am so thankful for them. And finally, all of my supporters, who I may not know personally, but are just as integral to my success as anyone. I couldn't have made it to where I am without all of you.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my Rally Campaign. I would appreciate anything you can do to help. Every little bit counts! If you can, please share my Rally with friends and family. Tweet about it, Facebook it, or post it on Instagram. Feel free to contact me on social media as well! I love hearing from people who want to support me.
Saludos :-) (I speak a little spanish...)
