Welcome to My Rally Campaign
My name is Tanner Perkins and I am an Alpine Ski Racer. I need your help to make my dreams a reality this season. Without the support of others, I would not be able to make it to the next level in the sport because of the incredibly demanding financial costs.
Why I'm Raising Funds and (why $30,000)
The greatest challenge for my family and me is definitely the financial aspect of skiing. I work close to 55 hours a week in the summer and all of that goes to skiing. That being said my family still uses about 30% of our yearly net salary to help me pay for all of the costs of skiing. My estimated budget including housing and travel this year has come out to $31,500. Even with working full time in the summer and the support from friends and family, I would not be able to make my dreams a reality without the help of others. All of the money raised here will go towards entry fees, travel expenses, housing, food, club fees, equipment and all the other little things that come along with skiing. This will help me tremendously with reaching my athletic goals. My main goal for the season is to make the US ski team in the spring.
How I Got Here
When I was six, my parents took me up to a small ski resort outside of Grand Junction. I fell in love with skiing right then and there. I skied for the local race club (Powderhorn Racing Club) for a few years and then moved to Crested Butte, Colorado. In Crested Butte I skied 7 years for the Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team (CBMST). As I began to get faster and older, and after many long talks with my parents and coaches, I decided that I needed to go to a bigger program to support my racing needs. I decided to move to Aspen to ski for the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club where I still base most of my ski training today. In the summer my training may consist of one or two trips to somewhere with snow, but otherwise, I am in the gym. I work on flexibility, strength, power, endurance, and cardio all on a regular basis in order to enhance my performance in the winter.
Who I am
I was born in Bangor, Maine. After a year my family moved to Florida, then Texas, then Grand Junction, Colorado (where I first skied), and finally to Crested Butte, Colorado where my family currently resides. When I am not training or skiing, my time mostly consists of work, school, and volunteering. I have done tons of different jobs around the valley including guiding, bike shop work, painting, landscaping, general construction, and home restoration. This summer I worked as a full-time house painter. Because I work so much I only have free time in the early morning or at night. Most days if I want to work out or go to the gym I have to be up by 5:00 am in order to get to work on time. After work, my time will mostly consist of schoolwork or another workout. When I have a spare moment, I love to ride horses and team rope down at our local fairgrounds. I ride my bike, run, hunt, and spend time outdoors every chance I get. Also, my dad and I are both volunteer firefighters for the Crested Butte Fire Department. I have had the unique opportunity to make some significant differences in people's lives and I enjoy doing it. I am very passionate about helping others in an emergency, and I feel that it is a good spot for me to give back to my community. Anytime I am not racing, training, or traveling, I really enjoy coming back to Crested Butte in the winter. I always try to ski with CBMST to have fun with, mentor and inspire some of the younger racers.
Join My Team and Spread the Word!
Anything helps, please share and spread this around to everybody and anyone you feel would like to see it! Skiing would not be possible without the help of contributions like yours, my family, and my sponsors. A huge thanks to Eleven Experience, Atomic, Crested Butte Snowsports Foundation, Cheer 4 Your Life, and Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club.
