"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off you like falling leaves."
-John Muir, Nature Writings
Is that Mt. Rainier?!! Everytime she shows her face it makes me giddy like a school girl. If you've been out here and seen it, you know what I'm talking about. Being outdoors we can taste how we're held and nourised exquisitely by the intricate web of life that is supporting us in every moment, every breath. It helps us discover our place. Intimacy with nature can both heal us and teach us to be in harmony and at peace with ourselves and the world. There is something indescribable about this volcano and I am drawn to it. I could just go climb it with friends, but intstead, I'm doing this for something bigger.
Supporting Wild Skills through this SheJumps event means a lot to me. I wsa lucky to grow up camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, biking, climbing, canoeing, and learning outdoor skills at summer camp. I remember capsizing a sunfish on Lake Gloria and thinking I would surely drown before I could upright her and get back to shore despite being no more than 100 yards from shore and wearing a PFD. My counselor swam out to help me stand on the daggerboard. I wasn't heavy enough to right her alone but with her help managed to finish my sail around the lake. Dinner that night was the best meal I thought I had ever tasted.
Doesn't it seem to keep getting easier to make excuses and stay in? As technology and screentime pervade our culture, it only becomes more important to unplug and seek out new experiences with others. With your help, lets get these girls out!
Our fundraising climb joins women from across the country to ascend Mt. Rainier in order to raise funds for SheJumps’ youth programs. SheJumps is making every effort to provide our climbing team with the best experience imaginable. This all-ladies climb will roll out with the true spirit of SheJumps, filled with encouragement, challenge and unbelievable stoke!
RAISING FUNDS FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
SheJumps Mt. Rainier Climb contributes to the nonprofit’s Wild Skills program. Wild Skills youth events teach young girls the survival and technical skills they need for outdoor adventuring. These skills can be applied in any season and include first aid, navigation, leave no trace and shelter building. Our events encourage girls to learn new skills, take on challenges and think creatively which develops perseverance and fosters confidence. The funds raised from this climb will help further this vision. https://www.getwildskills.org
Our mission is to increase the participation of women & girls in outdoor activities. The SheJumps community consists of females of all backgrounds and ages who help one another reach their highest potential through outdoor adventures and education. www.shejumps.org
