Growing up in the Pacific Northwest with the mountains, the sea, and the sound in my backyard provided countless opportunities to explore the outdoors. Whether it be digging in the beaches of Hood Canal or poking through the forests of the Cascades or skiing the mountains in Montana, being in nature and the outdoors is the place I feel the most at home.
Climbing Mt. Rainier became a goal of mine after my father passed away at the young age of 54. My Dad and Mom climbed the mountain in their 20's and some of my favorite photos of them were on that adventure. But more than that, my Dad was happiest outdoors doing the things he loved and had he lived longer, I know we would have had the opportunity to do so much more. After he died, I found solace in nature and started working for Montana Conservation Corps and Alternative Youth Adventures. Through these experiences and others, I recognized the incredible healing power of nature - both for myself and for others.
The confidence, groundedness and quiet of the outdoors led me to a career in the environmental field and a constant urge to explore. But the dream I had of climbing Rainier never left me. Now I have two young daughters and I love that SheJumps exists and their great programming is exactly the type of thing my dad would have loved!
Our fundraising climb joins women from across the country to ascend Mt. Rainier in order to raise funds for SheJumps’ youth programs. SheJumps is making every effort to provide our climbing team with the best experience imaginable. This all-ladies climb will roll out with the true spirit of SheJumps, filled with encouragement, challenge and unbelievable stoke!
RAISING FUNDS FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
SheJumps Mt. Rainier Climb contributes to the nonprofit’s Wild Skills program. Wild Skills youth events teach young girls the survival and technical skills they need for outdoor adventuring. These skills can be applied in any season and include first aid, navigation, leave no trace and shelter building. Our events encourage girls to learn new skills, take on challenges and think creatively which develops perseverance and fosters confidence. The funds raised from this climb will help further this vision. https://www.getwildskills.org
Our mission is to increase the participation of women & girls in outdoor activities. The SheJumps community consists of females of all backgrounds and ages who help one another reach their highest potential through outdoor adventures and education. www.shejumps.org
