Welcome to My Rally Campaign
Hi, my name is Kevin Goehring and I am starting a lacrosse organization in Cuyahoga Falls, OH in an effort to introduce the sport of lacrosse to members of my community, with the goal of eventually starting a team at Cuyahoga Falls High School. I have played lacrosse since my sophomore year of high school and have receieved All-American honors during my junior and senior seasons at Indiana Tech. I have coached all levels of lacrosse through the YMCA Clinics, Indiana University, True Lacrosse, Fort Wayne Boys' Lacrosse, Hawken School, and Force Sports.
Lacrosse is a sport that should not be out of reach for young athletes due to the high cost of equipment and team dues that can prohibt families from giving their child the opportunity to play, which is why I am offering a rec league that will give children the opportunity to play at a cost comprable to the local youth soccer and baseball leagues by creating a volunteer-based organization.
Our goal is to use these funds from this campaign to incorporate Cuyahoga Falls Lacrosse with the State of Ohio, file for 501(c)3 status, and begin purchasing goals, balls, and marketing materials for the free clinics and recreation league sessions.
Why I'm Raising Funds
Cuyahoga Falls Lacrosse will offer multiple free clinics, two, 8-week sessions of recreation leagues that meet twice a week (one starting in May and another starting in August) using the US Lacrosse LADM (Lacrosse Athelte Development Model) for $75 each, and a summer camp that will be used for the purchase of extra equipment that would be available to borrow. The LADM incorporates small-sided games, which allows players to get more reps while playing.
How I Got Here
I was fortunate enough to play multiple sports growing up, however cost was often a barrier for my family to puruse many opportunities. The youth sports market is flooded with for-profit organizations that have out-priced the opportunity to participate in certain sports and lacrosse is no exception. According to The Atlantic, youth sports is now a $17 billion industry, which has grown through the price that families are willing to pay for the best teams. These teams are often travel teams that compete regionally or nationally. In 2017, only 34% of children from families that made less than $25,000 played a team sport at least one day, compared to 69% of children from families that earned $100,000.
Rec leagues have personally shaped my life and I hope that I can provide the same for others. According to Time, a Utah State survey found that the average family spends just under $8,000 a year on lacrosse, the highest of all sports surveyed.
Please help Cuyahoga Falls Lacrosse in our goal of providing a top-level lacrosse epxerience for a rec league price by contributing to our campaign.
