Thanks for coming along for the ride!
You can help us qualify for the 2016 Olympics!
"Here's to strong women. May we know them, may we be them,
may we raise them."
Welcome, and we’re glad you’re here! We are Paris Henken and Helena Scutt.
Paris, 19, grew up in San Clemente and Coronado, CA, before starting at the College of Charleston, SC. Helena, 23, is from Kirkland, WA and graduated from Stanford University in 2014.
We are the #1 49erFX team on the US Sailing Team Sperry and we’re training full-time to represent the USA at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, only 9 months away!
In order to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials in January and February, our goal is to raise $15,000 by November 13.
Why Should I Support You?
Almost a year ago, we put our degrees on hold (Paris' bachelor's and Helena's master's) in order to pursue the biggest goal of our lives. We may be young, but there is no other USA FX team that has put in the time on the water than we have, has competed in as many championships as we have, or has consistently performed at the top level like we have. Some of our achievements are:
- Bronze Medalists at the 2015 Pan American Games in July
- Two-time 49erFX US National Champions
- USA representative at the 2015 Rio Test Event in August
- #25 in ISAF World Rankings and still moving up
How Did You Get Here?
Vision, dedication, and just “sending it”!
In 2012, the 49erFX was announced as the new women’s boat for the 2016 Olympics. The national team coaches saw our talent and paired us up for a training camp in March 2013… and we never looked back.
While still in high school and college, over the next two years we fought through unexpected challenges and now we remain unbeaten by other USA teams in the last 16 months.
Why Do You Need My Support?
What many people do not realize is that there is a very large gap between our expenses and the amount of funding that the US Sailing Team Sperry can offer us.
We expect the costs up to the Olympics to approach $100,000. Our goal here is to raise $15,000 by November 13 in order to compete in the US Olympic Trials.
We’re only 3 months away from the trials - the make-or-break of our Olympic effort. To qualify for the Games, we need to be the top USA team when our finishes at those two events are combined:
- ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami, Jan 25-30 2016
- 2016 World Championships, Clearwater FL, Feb 9-14 2016
With your help, we will be ready. The money we raise here will go directly to:
Housing in Miami, FL and Clearwater, FL: $1,450
Two new sets of sails: $7,650
Coaching for two regattas: $4,900
Entry fees: $1,000
Total: $15,000
WOAH! That’s a Lot of Money!
That’s probably why you’ll find us eating oatmeal in the morning (bang for your buck!) and sewing up the holes in our wetsuits at night. But we are so passionate about what we do, and a little help from a lot of you adds up to a lot!
Supporting us financially is a tremendous gesture of your belief in us, and we are so appreciative. It's also SO MUCH MORE: beyond being the push to victory at the US Olympic Trials, it is a statement that you know the importance of strong role models. Our young sailors, especially girls, need inspirational figures in order to believe that if they throw their time and energy into a big, ambitious goal, and live with honesty and integrity, that they can succeed.
Join Our Team and Spread the Word!
If you want to be able to say “I helped them, I contributed to that,” when you see us on TV in Rio next August, now is your chance! Please don’t delay - we have just 3 months until the Olympic trials. Every day we are preparing and we need your support.
Are There Other Ways To Help?

WE DID IT! That's right, you chipped in and together we raised $16,516! That's 110% of our goal!
Thank you so much for stepping up.
This past week we launched our new boat, Troy (get it? Paris... Helen(a)... Troy...!) which represents a lot of hard work fundraising (before this RallyMe) and work preparing the boat for racing. Check out our video for a chuckle: https://www.facebook.com/henkenscuttsailing/.
Tomorrow the 2015 World Championship begins. It will be six days of close, intense racing and it will be a fight to the end. Today we did one last tune-up sail before the championship. Now with teamwork and a lot of focus, it's time to perform.
Hang tight, because in a little over a week, we'll be back home and start sending out the swag (cards, bags, posters). Stay in touch this week by following our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/henkenscuttsailing/
Thank YOU!

WOW You have helped us reach 90% of our goal! With only 5 days left, the final countdown begins!
This past weekend (Thursday - Sunday) we raced the South American Championships in San Isidro, Argentina. Like 40 other teams from around the world, we used this regatta as a training tune-up before the World Championships next Monday. We had light winds throughout the event so we hope that next week's championship brings more breeze to up the ante a little bit!
During the next 7 days we will balance training and working on a couple of weak spots with the rest and mental preparation that are necessary before a major event. Now is the time to peak!
We are so excited to have you on our team. Thank you for helping us get closer to our RallyMe goal, and to our Olympic goal!
If you haven't shared our rally yet, there are only 5 days left, so now is the time! A short email or Facebook share can go a long way. Thank you!

Today we passed the $9,000 mark! Thank YOU for helping us get to this point. It is incredible to have your support and it truly shows what can be achieved with some teamwork!
We returned to Buenos Aires (after a short break at home) yesterday morning. Just a few hours after landing, we were already on the water doing intense boathandling training. Focused, efficient training is what will help us win the Trials! During our time at home, Helena sailed with the Seattle YC junior racers and gave a presentation about our campaign. What a treat to sense their energy and answer so many great questions!
With the money we raised since our first update, now we can pay for our housing during the events, too. We are so excited to be making these strides. Now it's time to reach our goal so that we can buy our new sails for the Olympic Trials!
Just under $6,000 to go, and only 11 days left! If you haven't already, please consider emailing 2 or 3 people with a link to our rally, or share on Facebook. You never know who might resonate with our story! Thank you!
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

You are one of our first 'Boosters' and we are so grateful to you for stepping up right at the beginning! Thank you for your generosity and for helping us get this RallyMe rolling. Thanks to you, we are four days in to the Rally and already at 40% of our goal!
With the money we’ve raised so far we have been able to book our coaching for the two Olympic Trials regattas and also pay our entry fees. This is REAL!
We have been training in Buenos Aires for a week and a half now, preparing for the World Championship next month. Gym, wetsuits on, sail, wetsuits off, gym, eat, sleep.... To see your support pouring in as we're in this corner of the globe gives us a lot of confidence and motivation. Thank you!
