UPDATE: Koki came to SLC where we hung out for a day before heading to Colorado to try and get some filming done before we leave for Japan in 4 DAYS!!!! We got this nice shot after a couple inches of snowfall in Keystone Colorado. Thanks to your support we almost have enough to cover the cost of a glidecam!
My name is Dani DeSalvio - I am an up and coming action sports photographer/videographer currently residing in SLC, Utah. Koki Ozawa is a freeskier born and raised on the island of Hokkaido in Japan! For over 6 months we have had this plan to produce a web series based around freeskiing in Japan.
The time finally comes and we are leaving at the beginning of February to stay in Japan for the month and produce "Spot Check Hokkaido". Our main goals are to be published on major media outlets such as Powder Magazine or Freeskier.
In order to make this web series successful we need your help! We are looking to raise $1,000 in order to cover camera gear expenses and lift ticket expenses.
Because of this trip I hope to inspire male and females alike to go after something they never felt attainable. Trying to break into the ski industry has been a challenge - a great one at that! Koki is working towards becoming a professional freeskier for Japan and I am also working towards getting my name recognized as a female photographer/filmer.
Without giving too much away - Koki and I will be traveling around the island of Hokkaido and filming at each different location we stop at. As a kid I would always watch Warren Miller and Teton Gravity Research's films with short segments of U.S. professional athetes riding in Japan. You see the pillow lines and fence drops and maybe a small bit of the culture revolving around Japan. With this web series you will be immersed in the Japanese freeskiing culture from a TRUE local's perspective!! We will bring you to the places you've seen in these films and also some new spots! We are planning on running into some professional athletes from other countries to also be featured.
We are paying our own way to Japan and already have our plane tickets purchased - so this is a done deal! We have a solid plan of producing at least 3 episodes... we want to make this high quality. Here's where your help comes in. Camera gear is fairly expensive - we will be renting some lenses because of this and also purchasing a glidecam. Just to get an idea of why we need $1,000... a glidecam alone costs around $500.
We understand a lot of people may be in the same financial boat as us. We would love your support and to spread our story to everyone you know through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or email... or even snailmail (just kidding about that last one)! We hope that you follow us along the way on our epic journey to the deepest snow on Earth!
Also thanks to SnoCru as well as the job that let me take time off of work to pursue my dreams!
