Welcome to My Rally Campaign
- Howdy there! My name is Katie Young and I currently play softball for Georgetown College.
- My goal here is to raise up to $5,000 by June for a trip to play softball in South Africa that I was invited to from Beyond Sports.
Why I'm Raising Funds
- The donations will strictly go to the expense of the trip with things such as: equipment, plane tickets, training, and other fees.
- I have always dreamed of studying abroad or going abroad for any reason at all but I never had thought it would become reality. With this opportunity Beyond Sports has given me I have been invited to play softball in South Africa for less than a month along with hosting clinics in South Africa to teach kids there how to play. The only things between me and South Africa is the money.
- I would LOVE to represent Allen County AND Georgetown by playing softball in South Africa.
How I Got Here
- I played softball at Allen County Scottsville High School is Scottsville, Ky. I graduated from high school in 2014. Graduating high school I left with a State Champtionship ring that we won my freshman year (2011), All Tournament and All Season team awards throughout the four years, Wendy Heisman Award, and also having an honor to play in the Kentucky All-Star games then later being asked to play on the Kentucky team for the Kentucky/Tennesee game for All-Stars.
- I have faced many challenges in my career as all athletes do. The most recent obsticle I had to face was breaking my nose as a freshman at Georgetown. I am typically an ourfielder but our short stop had gotten hurt so my couch pulled me in to play short for some games. I stayed after practice and took some extra balls from a teammate so I could get used to playing short stop when one sneaky roller popped up and hit me right in the face. Luckily it did not bleed and was not painful, I started laughing and touching it to see how bad it was. My coach then took me to the trainers then later on I had surgery on my nose. Needless to say, I was all better quickly because I was not letting that stop me from playing. I continued practicing with a facemask on and only missed one game (if I remember correctly).
My Team
- I would most definitley first of all thank God for my talent and ability to play, the opportunities I have gotten and the people I have gotten to meet and become close to because of this sport. I thank my mom and dad graciously for the time, money, patience and all the positive things they say to me to keep me going. I thank my sister for pushing me to be my best because I have always played side by side with her as my "partner in crime" in the outfield through travel ball, high school and even college ball. I thank my many coaches throughout my career from growing up starting as a 4 year old all the way up to high school and then college coaches currently.
Join My Team and Spread the Word!
- I would like to thank everyone who takes the time and reads my rally. You all mean a lot to me and I am SO grateful for all!
