About the above video: Thanks to On Point Fencing for this great interview after I won gold at a recent national tournament! I am super excited to keep up the momentum from last year's World Championships and and am hoping for a great result in Bulgaria!
Welcome to My Rally Campaign!
I'm back for a three-peat to represent the United States National Team at Junior World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in April of 2017!
Thank you for taking time to learn about my RallyMe campaign to help my family, coach and me get to the World Junior Fencing Championships in Bulgaria.
Hi, I'm Sylvie Binder. I am 17 years old and live in Armonk, NY. I am a fencer, and have been fencing since I was 7 years old. When I was 9, I fenced in my first competition for the Youth 10 age group. Since then, I have come a long way. I have had the privilege to travel all around the USA and world and represent the United States in tough national and international competitions. Over the past 3 years, I have had the honor of fencing in the 2015 Cadet World Championships located in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the 2016 World Championships in Bourges, France, and many other places around the world. Thanks to the generous donations of my RallyMe base, my family, my coach, and I were able to get to World Championships each year.
Training is going great!!! Here's a photo from our recent World Team training session at Columbia University this past weekend:
Two years ago, I placed 3rd at Cadet World Championships, and Last year, I WON!
This year, I'm back and ready to represent the USA as a member of the Junior (Under 20) National Team.
This year, I have earned a spot on the Junior World Championship team fir the second time!!!! I am currently ranked third in the USA in Juniors -- they announced the official team rosters at the Junior Olympics in Kansas City, Missouri. To compete again in this event, I need a lot of equipment and increase the amount of time that I have with my coaches (increasing lesson time, training, and analysis). Once again, I would like to share this amazing opportunity with my biggest supporters -- my family and my coaches -- and need the support from RallyMe donations to help defray expenses so they can help me prepare and join me in France. My goal is to reach $4,000 in donations for equipment and helping with travel expenses to the Worlds which are being held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria!
The past year has been very eventful and incredible. I was identified as a US Olympic Hopeful by TD Ameritrade and travelled to Rio to cheer on Team USA as well as spar a little with the current Olympians. Going to Rio was such an amazing experience and has motivated me this season to focus on my short term and long term fencing goals. You can see the video of TD Ameritrade surprising me on YouTube, click on this link: https://youtu.be/GE0yWHnpLBY .
The above photo was taken January 2017, dring national Division 1 University signing day! I will be fencing for Columbia University next year. Go Lions!
Here I am with my USA teammates taking a "podium shot" as we celebrate our 4th place finish in the Senior Team competition at the recent World Cup in Algiers, Algeria.
Last World Championships the team got silver in Juniors, and this year we're back for GOLD!
Campaign for Human Rights too!
The last 2 years, I donated 10% of my RallyMe funds to the United Nations Human Rights Office. Especially now, more than ever, the protection of our fundemental human rights is so important. Because I am passionate about the fair and humane treatment of all peoples around the world, I would like to do this again this year with the help of your contributions. Thank you!
It was my honor to present the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Zeid Al-Hussein, with a contribution to his office from last year's RallyMe proceeds. I visited with him at his offices in New York that overlook the UN's famous buildings. I look forward to doing it again this year with your help!
My Amazing Team
I would like to thank my wonderful parents for sacrificing so much time and energy into my fencing career and for helping me get this far. Thanks to my little brother, Zach, for the countless hours of practice time together and friendly competition. Also, thanks to my sister Abby for being my unwavering number one cheerleader.
Lastly, thank you to my coaches, who have propelled me to work harder than I ever thought possible -- without them, none of this would have been possible.
DOUBLE GOLD AT CADET WORLDS! I anchored the US mixed weapon team to a win against Russia in the finals last year.
Join My Team and spread the word. Thank you for looking at my campaign!
