Hey there! My name is Tara McCormick I am 18 years old and I am a track cyclist with a focus on sprinting! I am starting this RallyMe Campaign because as most of you know, cycling is quite expensive and relying entirely on my family is starting become harder and harder. I have finally aged out of the junior catagory and into the elite level ranks- which means more demanding and vigourous training. I am working towards my short term goal of winning an elite national championship in 2014 and my long term goal of representing the United States at the Olympics. I have represented my country on two occasions, at the 2012 and 2013 Junior Track Cycling World Championship, and I would love to race in my national colors again.
How I got started-
I started riding when I was about 8 years old, my grandparents used to ride and race and I would always love to go watch and be the little cheerleader. Then when I got tall enough I was able to ride the tandem with my grandfather, very soon after that I was bitten by the cycling bug. Soon after my first few rides on the tandem I got my own bike, that was it, I had found my thing. A year later I started racing, the youngest you can race is nine, and I won my frist race. Then soon after that I was racing every weekend winning (I hated losing). Shortly after that I found my way to the Velodrome in Carson, CA. That was instantly my new favorite. I loved the rush of looking up and seeing what looked like a wall, and riding on it! A couple years later after racing locally I did my first national championship. It didnt go so well, but I kept on doing it year after year. When I was 13 I won my first national medal and every year after that. People often say "I never look back", but that isnt for me. I always look back, I look back at where I have come from and my success so young, and how some kids didn't even know how to ride a bike. I love looking back, and seeing how far I have come.
What this is going towards-
The RallyMe funds that I hope to raise will be going towards training at the track, and traveling to NTC (national track calender) races so I can kick some butt!
