Welcome to My Rally Campaign
My name is Grace and I'm a 21 year old tennis player from Australia. Tennis was introduced to me at the age of 4 and has been my life since age 11 when I decided I wanted to take it seriously and start training properly. I loved the sport, a lot, and achieved a lot at a young age. I remember winning a $250 gift voucher when I was 10 (I think) I ended my year ranked number 1 in a leveller series that was run for the entire year, finishing on top of 16 and 18 year olds! My national rank also helped me gain a part time scholarship at the National Tennis Centre when I was 14. I also received a full scholarship at Kooyong Lawn Tennis club when I was noticed by Wayne Arthur's.
But then my parents became hugely demanding and toxic and it got to the point where if I didn't win matches I was receiving death threats and being called names of such a degrading nature (b**ch s**t wh*re) that I eventually lost love for the game and quit when I turned 18...these threats started when I was 12yrs old fyi. And yeah, you're probably thinking, why didn't she get help. I tried, trust me...no one is there to save you in the moment it's happening. It was only last year (age 20) that I decided I'm going to come back and do it for myself. I would never let it down just sitting there in my 30's/40's looking at the god given talent I was given and hard work I put in through the years just to throw it away because other people's actions. So here I am.
Why I'm Raising Funds
I'm raising funds because $20 an hr just doesn't cut it when you throw together the price of training ($70 an HR), travelling costs ($2000 flights just to get out of Aus alone), accommodation at tennis venues while on tour($100 per night), food, tournament entry fees and the price of equipment. I don't have enough time to work a full time job. Tennis is my full time job. So I'm sort of stuck working 6hrs a week coaching kids and living at home to get by. ......no chance of travelling.
How I Got Here
I'm here because I know I have what it takes to be a international champion. Pro tour events are where I intend to put all the money and they are all overseas. In Australia we have a very limited amount of Pro tour events (10-15 a year) while in Europe there are 10-15 tournaments a week!!!..you get the jist....
I am a hard worker. Always have been always will be. I am an elite athlete and I know that hard work pays off. I commit to training every day and have organised all of my training this year on my own. I am independent and know how to work with budgets and any donation will help me. Even if it's $1, that's $1 closer to my goal!
I work with a great coach who believes in me and knows I have what it takes. As corny as it sounds, each donation will be a fuel to my own belief in myself. Because you truly believe I can do this too. I'll be watching, every cent is a sign of care and trust in my ability. You don't know how much it means, but I guess you'll see in the long run.
I intend to be a top 50 tennis player in the world. I know I will get there. Let's do this guy's!
