DUFFY BROTHERS MADE THE U.S. TEAM!
Hi everyone! We are the Duffy Brothers (D2) – Danny, 19, and Drew, 18. We are Alpine ski racers, and we were just nominated to the 2013-2014 U.S. Ski Team!
THE COSTS ARE BIG
We are on the first rung of what we hope to be careers on the World Cup, with dreams of one day representing the U.S. in the Olympic Winter Games. In order to compete at this high level, we need to fund ourselves, at $25,000 EACH per year.
Ski racing has been part of our lives as long as we can remember. We never could have dreamed that we would have the opportunity to share the experience on the Team together. Well, our dreams came true, and now the hard work begins.
FAMILY SACRIFICE & PASSION
We began skiing before we were 3. We would travel to Vermont from outside Boston on winter weekends and free ski at Mad River Glen and Sugarbush. When we began racing, just before middle school, we were introduced to Green Mountain Valley School, a ski academy nearby. Our family relocated knowing that we had found our passion. Training twice a day and ski training every winter morning, helped set our goals high.
In addition to preparing us for possible spots on the National team, at
GMVS we also took college preparatory courses, we are currently deferred from Saint Michael’s College (Danny) and from Middlebury College (Drew.) We played soccer and lacrosse (D-2 VT State Champions ’12) and found some hidden talents in art (Danny) and photography (Drew.) We were also able to log over 100 community service and 1,000 scholarship hours during our high school years.
HARD WORK, SUCCESS & GIVING BACK
From early on, we have had our share of success in the sport we love. We’ve been lucky enough to podium at State Championships, Regional Junior Olympics, Junior National Championships as well as top level FIS races. We are both ranked #1 for our ages in Giant Slalom in the US, and top 5 in 2 otherevents. In the upcoming season we look forward to success on the NorAm circuit as well as invitations to World Juniors.
We want to be role models for younger skiers. We enjoy mentoring, coaching, and playing an active role in the development of skiers at our home mountain as well as our ski academy. Forerunning at races, participating in ski club events, and assisting in awards ceremonies enables us to stay connected to skiers of all ages. They’ve known us as friends, and maybe our success will motivate them to reach for their dreams.
WHY WE NEED YOU TO JOIN OUR TEAM
We have been very fortunate that our parents, school, and regional ski organizations have supported us to this point. And now with the U.S. Ski Team's guidance and help, we are hoping to find some additional supporters. If you are an avid skier, a former racer, or a parent who supports a racer, you know the costs involved. Please consider helping us reach our goal.
We’ve learned many life lessons on the road to the U.S. Ski Team. One mantra that motivates us is to work hard and then harder, and we are willing to keep working!
GENEROSITY IN A MATCHING FUNDER
As we work toward our $50,000 goal, we have an anonymous booster who has generously offered to match our progress each step of the way, up to $25,000.
We are incredibly grateful for their belief in us and hope that you’ll consider making a contribution as well.
