Welcome to S.O.T.A.M Futbol Academy
Shadow Of The AlMighty ~Psalm 91~ (S.O.T.A.M) Futbol Academy is a Christian-based soccer club that provides services to underserved, low-income children throughout the Washington, DC and Baltimore metropolitan areas (DMV). We use the beautiful game of soccer to develop student-athletes who value fair play, teamwork, discipline and hard work.
Why We're Raising Funds
S.O.T.A.M is a growing academy, and with that, demand grows. We function with a membership fee but unfortunetly, this doesn't cover every cost.
We open our doors to all kids and we would not want to close our doors to anyone due to lack of equiptment, space, and/or staff to receive them.
How We Got Here
SOTAM was the vision of its founder, Juan Carlos Cruz. Born in El Salvador, he came to Maryland as a child and became the first member of his family to attend college. Growing up, sports always played a key part in his day-to-day life, providing him with the structure that allowed him to succeed. During his time at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, he joined its soccer coaching staff to continue that discipline.
After graduation, Juan Carlos decided to support other immigrant families by mentoring children in his community. In March 2015, SOTAM kicked of its 1st six-week clinic program with only four children. Over the course of the next 2 months, 30 children would sign up for the next series of clinics. When SOTAM reached its first anniversary anniversary, more than 60 children were enrolled.
The growth of SOTAM can be credited to the quality of its programs and a low membership fee, which is more than 50 percent less of what other sports academies charge in the DMV area. Unlike other academies in the region, we require little to no soccer experience and are open to all boys and girls, ages 2 to 14. All student-athletes are required to attend games, practices and Studybol, our academic program. Every Wednesday before training begins, students receive assistance with homework from Studybol tutors, high school students in good academic standing who volunteer to help their younger peers succeed. SOTAM collects and reviews the report cards of its student-athletes every quarter and tracks their participation, attendance, and grades.
We'd like to thank our magnificent team that works hard every session with our students. Always bringing their best to give each child quality training.
